Henry Reeves
|
Henry Reeves was born on April 12, 1871, in West Harper, Tennessee. His family moved to Texas sometime around 1892. Reeves began working for the Proctor of the University of Texas in 1896 and, at some point before 1900, he began working with the University of Texas football team as their athletic trainer. He would also take care of the equipment and tend to the gymnasium as part of his job duties.
Reeves suffered a stroke during the 1915 Texas A&M game. A "Come Across for Henry” fund drive was taken up at the next home game and students also collected donations to pay his medical bills. Reeves would pass away after another stroke, on February 19th, 1916, at age 44.
