Lloyd "Snapper" Stein

Lloyd W. Stein was born on April 9, 1907, in Two Harbors, Minnesota. From 1929 through 1931, he would play center of the for the University of Minnesota football team, where he got his nickname "Snapper." He was a physical education major and graduated in 1932.
Stein was very active in the original NATA, serving as the President of the association from 1940-42. In 1942, he entered the Navy during World War II and would in charge of the athletic trainers at the Iowa Navy Pre-Flight School. He left the Navy, in 1946, with the rank of lieutenant commander.
Stein was inducted into the NATA Hall of Fame in 1965 and retired ten years later. He would die of a heart attack on January 1, 1987.
